In July 2006, the City Council approved a La Mesa Community Wellness Program.

In 2007 the City and the District applied for and received a grant from the National League of Cities and the American Association of School Administrators to develop best practices in joint city and school wellness.
Partnering with Jackson, Tennessee, the grant allowed the City and the School District to look at best practices in the coordination of efforts to increase the wellness of students and families within the shared community.
The work that was done positioned the City and District to receive an additional grant in July for $177,000 from the California Endowment to embark on the next phase of developing and working together to reach a shared vision of wellness.
The Live Well Initiative will provide an opportunity for the City and School District to develop a coordinated road map that supports positive changes in the social and physical environments in which our students and families learn and live.
A message to the residents in La Mesa:
As a retired firefighter, health and fitness have always played an important role in my life. That is why I am a huge supporter of the La Mesa community wellness programs.
These programs can be the foundation for a healthy lifestyle, or the catalyst for change. I highly encourage taking advantage of these opportunities to make a change for health.
To give you an idea of my work-out routine, I exercise 6 days a week. I use a combination of Martial Arts, Kettlebells, Running and Weightlifting.
If you would like some personal instruction in Functional Fitness, the use of Kettlebells, or Jeet Kune Do, my personal trainer is Mr. Al Lowrimore. He can be found at www.allowrimore.com
Stay Healthy!!!
