During his first term as a member of the City Council, Dave has made many significant contributions to the success of the City. Through his leadership, Paramedics now respond to emergencies with the Fire Department; Proposition D was passed, providing funds for much-needed Police, Fire and City Administration facilities; construction of sports facilities at the Junior Esau Sports Complex at Parkway Middle School is almost complete; a new City Manager was selected following the retirement of the long-time previous Manager; and the City has developed a financially responsible budget in the face of state cuts.
Daves career has been dedicated to the Fire Service. For the past 17 years, he has worked for the San Miguel Fire Protection District; prior to that he was with the US Federal Fire Service. Dave also served in the US Army, 8th Division, 101st Airborne.
Daves community activities include serving on the Board of the East County YMCA, Director of Legislative Affairs for the San Miguel Firefighters, member of the California Professional Firefighters, and Deputy Director for the California State Firefighters Association. Dave has attended League of California Cities conferences, has worked diligently with local, state and federal elected officials to solve local problems, and has served as President of the San Miguel Firefighters. While his children were growing up, he coached Little League teams and served on the Little League Board.
Dave looks forward to continue serving the citizens of La Mesa as a councilman connecting residents and business owners to their elected officials; working with other jurisdictions in East County to develop regional solutions to challenges facing our communities; listening to the City professionals and analyzing alternatives to develop solutions that make sense in setting a course of action for the future. Dave is always accessible and interested in hearing from the residents of the City about ways to make life better in La Mesa.
